A blogger wrote a couple days ago that “Shiver” off of Parachutes, Coldplay’s first CD, is “just about the best song ever written by anybody, and dissappontingly superior to anything they’ve written since.” She likened Parachutes-era Coldplay to Jeff Buckley, and current-era Coldplay to Diet U2. I can’t say that that’s an unfair assessment.
To me, A Rush of Blood To The Head was the perfect blend of both Buckley and U2, and everything since has been borderline intolerable save for the soaring atmospheric arena-rock chord progressions.
Really, Viva La Vida is lyrically punishing.
Let’s take it back to the good old days.
